An outstanding collection of tenor arias by outstanding artists.

The album draws upon DECCA's extensive catalog of vocal recordings and includes recordings from 1956 through 1997. As such it features items recorded using the analog technology of the 50s as well as those employing most subsequent higher fidelity techniques, including digital ones. Specifically, 37 are analog and 13 are digital recordings. In spite of that range of technology all of the offerings sound very good indeed and often provide the crème de la crème of performances of the included pieces.

As to type of music, operatic arias dominate, accounting for 34 of the 50 items. There are also 14 songs and 2 items from operetta. Those sung in Italian dominate, including 38 pieces, while 5 each are sung in French and German and 2 in Spanish.
