Steve winwood greatest hits- We have heard them all before with his various great bands( Spence Davis Band,Traffic , Blind Faith )Eric Clapton and solo but not these versions (in albums) . Winwood's superlative vocals cover the full range - folk, blues. rock and R&B with equal ease. Instrumentally he is just too good on keyboards and guitar in this album while his back up band is on fire . I rate Winwood amongst the top ten singers of 20th century and he even now remains in the top bracket . The keyboard dominated low spark of HH boys becomes guitar centric but still has its jazzy structure.Empty pages in this album is quite different but retains its basic structure .I preferred his folk and rock based music of Traffic/BF and considered his solo work good but popish . But his pop tunes ( Higher Love, mandolin based Turning back into high life sound much better than the previous versions and not out of place in this album . He is one of the few classic rock artists( also Plant and Daltry& Neil Young) who retained their respective voices for more than half a century. Try comparing his voice in this album to the recent albums of Bob Dylan, Ian Anderson, Elton John etc and you will know the difference
