The product of the New Wave, which replaced the punk of the 70s, The Police group from its very beginning was proclaimed as an independent live band - a group that, speaking galvanized, had an impressive studio sound into something otherworldly. The band members came from different musical environments: Summers played with The Animals, Copeland was a member of Curved Air and had a brief solo career as Klark Kent, while Sting played in various jazz fusion groups. By combining their energy with memorable melodies, Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers played with an improvisation of the jazz trio and the raw energy of punk rock - giving the mix that made them one of the best rock bands of the 70s and 80s.
The police
Their first album, Outlandos D'Amour, which was released on A & M Records in 1978 quickly rose in charts with such hits as Roxanne and So Lonely. The following year brought the album Reggatta de Blanc, which also topped the charts with hits Message in a Bottle and Walking on the Moon, and was awarded the first Grammy award. In 1980, a new work by Zenyatta Mondatta was released, which adds two more Grammy figurines to the group's assets. New 1981 and again new album Ghost in the Machine which has become triple platinum in the USA. After two years of creative leave, the members reunited to record Synchronicity, the fifth studio album, which will earn three Grammy, and will be their swan song. Synchronicity was the band's most successful work, and the single from this album Every Breath You Take is one of the most memorable rock ballads of the 80s. The Police were ranked # 1 as the most played band on American radio in the 80s, in 1982 The Police won the Brit Award in the Best Group category, and in 1985 was awarded the Brit Award for outstanding contributions to British music. 4 of 5 albums of the group are in the Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list, and the band takes the 70th position in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. March 10, 2003 The Police was introduced to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
