Artist: Pinetop Perkins | Album: Pinetop Perkins on the 88’s: Live in Chicago | Released: 2007 | Genre: Blues

Under his hands, the piano seemed to play by himself - he simply set the task for what to play: slow, weary blues or incendiary boogie-woogie. His carcass was magical. And even in his most recent recordings, his voice sounds fascinatingly charming. And it is a fact that he was never considered to be such an original pianist as Memphis Slim, so inventive as Otis Spann, and no one called him an outstanding vocalist ... But the state of the blues was completely natural for him, and this feeling pervades all his recordings. , infecting the listener with penetration and authenticity. He is the last of the Delta Blues founding fathers, he lived a long life, played the blues until the last days.
Paintop Perkins (07/07/1913 - 03/21/2011) - American blues pianist, singer. His first composition recorded in Memphis at the studio of Sam Phillips.
Perkins played with many famous musicians. So, he performed together with Sunny Boy Williamson in King Biscuit Time radio concerts, with Robert Nighthawk, Bee King and Earl Hooker, John Lee Hooker. Since 1969, for more than 10 years, Perkins has performed on the Muddy Waters bluesband, and then began solo performances.
Perkins was awarded the W.C. Handy Award (now Blues Award) for "Best Pianist". Later this award was given the name of Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year.
In 2005, he and Henry Townsend, Robert Lockwood Jr. and Honeyboy Edwards received the Grammy for the album “Last of the Great Mississippi Delta Bluesmen: Live in Dallas”. In 2008, Paynthop Perkins and Willie “Big Aes” Smith were awarded the Grammy Award in the Best Traditional Blues Album category for the album “Joined at the Hip”. Having received this award, he became the oldest musician to receive a Grammy.
